We are student siblings who decided to curate a selection of ambient foods that help with various health issues. Especially important to us was to find food that helps boost Serotonin which makes you feel happier, yeh! We curated a handful of foods you can eat ‘on-the-go’, that improve your body, mind and gut and lower blood pressure.
What they have in common is they are all rich in Antioxidants. They all help in the production of vital Short Chain Fatty Acids (SCFA) .
What causes illness? Free Radicals What repairs free radicals? Antioxidants. What is a source of antioxidants? Polyphenols.
What causes disease? Chronic Inflammation. What helps reduce inflammation? SCFA’s. What strengthens The Immune System…SCFA’s. Fibrous Food which are high in Polyphenols produce SCFA’s in the gut and THAT is the key to optimum health.
What’s in a name:
Medjuica is a play on the Greek mythological figure Medusa, a monster with the hair of snakes. Medusa starts off beautiful but is pursued by the sea God Poseidon who violates her. Medjuica in that respect, is an allegory. Many food and drink corrupters – like Poseidon – poison our bodies with synthetic concoctions. Medjuica is an antidote that uses quality organic food and juices to reverse this damage and heal.
We are heartily sick of all the junk food that’s out there lining the shelves of shops and supermarkets. The more synthetic chemicals they can pour into food, the cheaper they can sell it for. Fancy packaging attracts consumers yet many of these foods are making us ILL. We wanted to fight back with a selection of foods that pay homage and respect to our bodies.
Why Organic:
We are passionate that these foods have to be organic as we firmly believe that the chemicals being sprayed on crops are detrimental to our health. The governing bodies in charge of the ‘doses’ that are permitted only take into account individual chemicals. However, it is the cumulative effect of ingesting multiple chemicals that’s the unknown factor, so why not avoid them completely? If herbicides block an enzyme essential for plant growth, if pesticides kill pests and insecticides kill insects, what on earth are they doing to the cells in our bodies? Chemicals are being sprayed on foods to get better yields for farmers but they are killing insects, bees and wildlife that are essential to biodiversity. We humans are the proverbial turkey voting for Christmas. Please buy organic fruit and vegetables wherever possible and let’s change an industry collectively. .
Truth or Dare:
Medjuica is setting an innovative bar by displaying laboratory results for certain products which are high in polyphenols and antioxidants, for example, our extra virgin olive oil (Evoo) & chocolate. We want to see other food manufacturers copy this model. Take our 10ml EVOO, it has a staggering 2,411 mg/kg total polyphenol content.
The European Union Health Claim Labelling Regulation 432-2012 states that olive oils with polyphenols of 250 mg/kg or more can make this claim: Olive oil polyphenols contribute to the protection of blood lipids from oxidative stress. In order to bear the claim, information shall be given to the consumer that the beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 20 g of olive oil.
That means, with just 10ml of Medjuica’s EVOO, you get almost FIVE TIMES more than the EU directive. Some supermarket brands of EVOO have little or no polyphenols due to adulteration. Just google ‘olive oil fraud’ and you’ll find some famous brands have been prosecuted, So we are throwing down the gauntlet and demanding manufacturers to provide evidence of their laboratory tests, if they even have any that is.
We have a favour to ask:
Please be patient if items are out of stock. We are a fledgling company operating on a tiny budget trying to build Medjuica up slowly. Think of us as the David verses Goliath. Some of our products (such as our 10ml bottle of high polyphenol organic extra virgin olive oil / EVOO) are expensive but you only need a this tiny amount to get maximum effect. They are limited editions and produced in small batches. If they run out we have to wait for the next harvest to replenish our stocks.
Please remember we cannot provide medical advice, for that you need to visit your GP. We are mindful that GPs get precious little training when it comes to good nutrition but they will know your medical history and whether a food product might interfere with any medication. In the UK, a recent study of 853 medical students and doctors found that over 70% medics received less than two hours of nutrition training at medical school. The good news is that the need to educate GPs about nutrition is changing.
With regard to general email queries, we may take some time to respond as our resources are scarce.
Finally, we have to sell our products in minimum quantities as we want our customers to habitually use them, as sometimes the therapeutic effect can take months. So if you’re buying items individually, there is a minimum order.

Starting on a healthy diet must begin in childhood, don’t expect that eating junk food can be reversed in later years. If you’re on this website you’ve already shown commitment. It takes a critical mass to change what’s in our stores, be it to buy more organic food or eliminatie ultra-processed foods.
Close to 90% of our packaging is either recyclable or compostable as we aim to be kinder to the planet.
And finally, we want to show that ‘the proof of the pudding is in the eating’. We suggest you take your blood pressure before eating Medjuica products and then periodically, as you take them over a period of time. We hope to feature a BP wrist monitor in our online shop soon.
